Vamos aprender as expressões idiomáticas por meio da língua inglesa.

[apagar]

・ao apagar das luzes　=the final moments of a soccer match サッカーの試合で土壇場で、ぎりぎりで。

Ex. O flamengo ganhou ao apagar das luzes. フラメンゴは土壇場で勝った。

・apagar o pavio =to die; to fall asleepl  死ぬ; 寝入る、寝付く。

[apaixonado]

・estar loucamente apaixonado por alguém =be deep in love with someone

誰かを深く愛している。

●類似の表現として、例えば、三度の飯より音楽が好きである→ Sou apaixonado por música.

[apalpadela]

・andar às apalpadelas =feel one’s way, pick one’s way  手探りで歩く。

●=às cegas, às escuras

[apanhar]

・apanhar que nem boi nem ladrão =to really take a beating ,catch hell

打ち負かす、しのぐことはなかなか難しい;ひどく叱られる、大目玉を食う。

[aparência]

・a julgar pela aparência =by the look of, on the face of it, to all appearan-

ces, seemingly 見かけは、概観では、上辺では、どう見ても、考えても。

●a julgar por=〜から判断すると。na aparência=最初の印象では

Ex.A julgar pelo meu conhecimento, o Nordeste brasileiro é repleto da di-

versidade cultural.

私の知見から判断すると、ブラジル北東部は文化的多様性に富んでいる。

・as aparências enganam  =appearances are decep-

tive(deceiving, misleading), you can't tell a book by its cover

人は見かけによらない、「見かけは当てにならない」。

・para salvar as aparências  =to save face, to keep up appearances, for the sake

of appearances  顔をたてる、つぶさない、世間体をつくろう。

Ex.Os dois primos ainda se falavam, só para salvar as aparências.二人の従兄弟はただ顔をたてるためにまだお互いに話していた。

●salvarの代わりにguardar, manterも可能。

[apertado]

・estar apertado =to have to go to the bathroom

Ex. Meu filho estava aperdado, de modo que foi lavar as mãos.

息子はおしっこ又は排便したかったので、お手洗いに行った。

[apertar]

・apertar com alguém =press, harass someone 人を苦しめる、困らせる、悩ませる。

[aperto]

・estar又はverse em aperto  =find oneself in a fix, be in a tight spot, be in a peck of troubles  苦境にある、進退極まっている、経済的に苦労する。

●=estar em maus lençois, estar em aperturas

[apesar]

・apesar de =in spite of 〜にもかかわらず。

Ex. Apesar das dificuldades, a menina conseguiu ultrapassar os obstáculos.

困難にもかかわらず、女の子は障害を克服した。

・apesar de tudo又はdisso   それにもかかわらず、それでもなお、やはり。

[ansiedade]

・aguardar com ansiedade  =look forward to

切望して待つ、〜を期待する、楽しみに待つ

[antes]

・antes de mais [nada]  =first and foremost, for one thing 何よりももまず、ただちに; とりわけ。

●=antes de tudo

[assim-assim]

・assim-assim =so-so  まあまあ、まずまず。

[asinado]

・assinado e selado  =under hand and seal  署名捺印して(した)

[assunto]

・entender de um assunto  =be well-posted in the subject, know one’s stuff

内部事情に明るい、こつを心得ている、(万事)心得ている、精通、熟達している。

・estar fora do assnto =be beside the question,be neither here nor there

問題外である、無関係である

・fugir do assunto  =dodge the issue, stray from the subject 話題、問題からそれる、脇にそれる。

・liquidar o assunto =clinch the matter 問題、議論などに決着をつける、決定する。

・martelar um assunto  =harp on a subject  幾度も繰り返して言う、説く。

・matar o又はum assunto de uma vez por todas  =settle the又はa matter once and for all  きっぱりと、これを最後に、問題を解決する。

[aquela]

・sem mais aquela  =at a moment’s notice, without further ado 即座に、すぐに。

[aqui]

・aqui, ali e acolá =here, there and every-where そこかしこに、至る所に。

・aqui又はcá pra nós =just between you and me, between you and me and the door-post  われわれの間のこととして、ここだけのこととして、内密に。

●cá entre nós =ここだけの話だが。

・nem aqui nem na China  =nowhere on earth, not here nor any place else

何処にもない。

Ex. Você não pode comprar uma pintura igual a essa nem aqui nem na China.

君はそれと同じ絵は買えないよ。何処にもないから。

[ar]

・ao ar livre  =in the open air, out-of-doors  戸外に、野外に。

Ex. A festa se realizará ao ar livre. パーティーは屋外で行われるでしよう。

・apanhar um ar  =catch a cold  風邪をひく、感冒にかかる。

・assumir ares de importante  =give oneself airs  気取る、威張る。

●=darse ares

・com ares de importância  =with an air of importance  偉ぶって、気取って。

・dar ares de又はcom algém  =resemble someone, look like someone

〜のふりをする、〜のように振る舞う。;〜と似ている。

●=ter uns ares de alguém

・dar o 又はum ar de sua graça  =chow up, put in an appearance 姿を現す、現れる。

Ex. Eu não quero ficar na parada, mas vou dar um ar de minha graça.

僕はパレードにいたくないが、顔を出します。

・em ar de troça =with one’s tongue in one’s check

顔とは裏腹に、不誠実に、不真面目に、皮肉たっぷりに、あざけって。

・entrar no ar =go on the air  放送する、される。

・estar no ar  =be on the air  放送されている。

・falar no ar =talk without purpose,talk without reason 理由もなく話す、目的もなく話す。

・fazer com ar de tristeza

(desânimo)

=draw(make, pull) a long face 浮かぬ顔をする、陰気な顔をする、落胆したようになる。

・Há algo no ar =smell a rat[陰謀、策略などに]気づく、嗅ぎつける、感づく、何かあるな。

●=Aí tem又はhá coisa

・ir ao ar =broadcast, be sent out by radio 放送する。

・mudar de ares =get a change of scene, make a change of place 転地する。

Ex. Eu saí da cidade grande para mudar de ares.僕は転地するために大都市を出た。

・pegar no ar = to guess right, intuit, catch on right away, figure out immediately 推量する; 即座に覚える、理解する;小耳にはさむ。

・saltar aos ares =go up in the air  爆発する、破裂する。

・tomar ar =take an airing  散歩する。

[arado]

・estar Arado =be starving, to be very hungry 死ぬほど腹が減っている;

餓死する。=estar morrendo de fome。

[arco]

・abrir 又はmeter o arco =flee, run way, escape  逃げる、逃走する。

●=passar又はpôr sebo nas canelas

Ex. Se o negócio pifar, é bom você meter o arco.

もし商売が失敗したら、おまえさんはとんずらしたがよい。

[arco-da-velha]

・coisa 又はhitória do arco-da-velha   =the whopper, tall tale 信じられないようなこと、話。

・ter ares de  =look like, be like  〜に似ている、〜のようである。

[arapuca]

・cair na arapuca  =be caught in a trap  罠にかかる。

●=cair na armadilhs

Ex. Meu primo caiu na armadilha daquele vigarista. 僕の従兄弟はあのペテン師の罠にはまつた。

[areado]

・estar areado  =penniless, flat, be broke 無一文の、金のない、ひどく貧乏な。

●=estar na pindaíba, estar na lona

[areia]

・botar areia em  =to put a damper on, spoil  水を差す; 〜の邪魔をする。

●=jogar areia em

Ex.Essa neve danada jogou areia na parada de samba que a aldeia de MinamiAso planejou.  この豪雪は、南阿蘇村が計画したサンバパレードを台無しにした。

・castelo(s) de vento  =build castles in the air  砂上の楼閣、実現不可能な計画、甘い考え。

・o castelo de cartas  =the house of cards , something fragile or preca-rious

もろいもの、空中楼閣; トランプで組み立てた城。

Ex. Quase todos os planos dela são castelos de cartas.

彼女のほとんど全ての計画は絵空事だ。

・construir na areia =build castles in the air  砂上の楼閣である。

●空中楼閣を築く; 空想にふける→fazer castelos no ar

・jogar areia em  =deceive someone, pull wool over one’s eyes

〜の邪魔をする; 〜に水を差す。

・entrar areia  =go down the drain, go to pot  おじゃんになる、破滅する、零落する、落ちぶれる。失われる、なくなる、いよいよ駄目になる、ますます悪くなる。

[argueiro]

・fazer de um argueiro um cavaleiro   =make a mountain out of a molehill, exaggerate  針小棒大に言う。

●=fazer de alguma coisa

um bicho de sete cabeças, fazer de um alfinete

um espeto

・ver um argueiro no olho do vizinho e não ver a tranca no seu =critize the other person’s shotcomings while ignoring your own  自分のことを棚に上げて他人の欠点をあげつらう。
